Tip 2: Use public transport

Once in Basel, exploring the city sustainably is easy thanks to its excellent tram and bus network. On match days, your ticket gives you free travel to and from the stadium on the local public transport systems (TNW, Regio Verkehrsverbund Lörrach, and Distribus). If you’re staying overnight, the BaselCard also grants you unlimited access to public transport for the entire duration of your visit.
Multiple tram and bus lines take you straight to fan zones and to St. Jakob-Park, which has its own nearby stops.
If you’re looking for a moment of calm between all the excitement, hop on one of Basel’s charming Rhine ferries. They offer beautiful views of the city and let you experience the Rhine’s beauty from a whole new perspective.

Tip 3: Celebrate a football festival of diversity

The UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 is not only about world-class football, but also about diversity, equality, and togetherness. Under the banner of social sustainability, the tournament empowers women and promotes lasting support for girls and women in the football sport.
Contribute to this spirit by treating others with openness, respect, and kindness – no matter where they’re from, what they look like, or how they live. You’ll help foster an inclusive, welcoming environment where everyone feels welcome and valued.
Maybe you’ll strike up a conversation with a volunteer or smile at a fellow fan – small gestures build a strong community and make this tournament a celebration for all.
Tip 4: Choose reusables when celebrating

To minimise waste, Basel runs a reusable system at public events. It’s simple: when you buy food or drink, it is served in reusable dishes or cups, for which you pay a deposit. By returning your cup or plate, you will receive your deposit back. The more consistently you use this reusable system, the less waste you will produce.
Bringing your own shopping bag or water bottle is another simple way to reduce packaging waste.
Tip 5: Separate and dispose of waste properly

Despite all efforts, some waste is inevitable. That’s why it’s vital to sort and dispose of rubbish correctly. Whether it’s plastic, glass, PET, or aluminium, please sort your waste carefully and use the recycling stations or bins provided throughout the city and at event venues.
Important: Littering is an offence and could result in a fine of CHF 100 – this includes discarded cigarette butts or single-use vapes, which are particularly harmful to the environment.
Tip 6: Refresh yourself at Basel’s fountains

Basel boasts nearly 300 public fountains offering fresh, drinkable water around the clock. Bring your reusable bottle and refill it for free – an easy way to stay refreshed while reducing plastic waste.
You can find a full map of fountains and more information here.
Tip 7: Choose plant-based meals to protect the climate

Nearly one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions stem from our diets, with animal-based products like meat, fish, and dairy having a particularly high environmental impact. That’s why UEFA Women’s EURO in Basel will feature a high proportion of regional, seasonal and vegetarian food options in the fan zones. Opting for plant-based dishes is good for the planet without having to sacrifice enjoyment.
Tip 8: Promote accessibility for all

Not everyone can navigate public spaces with ease. Stairs, crowds, or unclear information can be real obstacles. Help make UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 a welcoming experience for everyone: keep paths clear, communicate clearly, and offer help when needed.

- Second-hand clothing stores
- Zero-waste and Fairtrade shops
- Cafés and restaurants with sustainable menus
Supporting these businesses promotes mindful consumption and strengthens local social and environmental initiatives.
